iPhone 6 Plus Review: Does Biggest Mean Best?

BIGGER and then some, we test out Apple's phablet-sized iPhone 6 Plus. But is it a better choice than the iPhone 6?
The iPhone 6 Plus is the biggest handset Apple has ever built. It’s also one of the largest handsets you can buy in the UK right now. Odd, considering only a few months ago Apple’s iPhones were smaller than 90% of their contemporaries with their 4in displays. But the real reason behind Apple’s change of heart is a very simple one: the market (that's you lot) now demands bigger phones, so Apple pretty much had to start playing ball –– it just took the company a bit longer than everybody else to realise this.
The 2014 iPhones –– the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus –– are, of course, the best smartphones the company has ever produced, bringing together everything that made the iPhone 5s great (ecosystem, great silicon, decent imaging), adding in a slight variation to the design, and, of course, larger display panels. These are the takeaway points, but the other BIG THING about these iPhones is how they’re selling; Apple has shifted 39 million units already since the handsets launched.
I’ve been using both handsets since they went on sale, and while I did enjoy using both, the iPhone 6 has gone on to become my daily driver. The reason? Simple: I prefer its overall size and weight. But that’s just my personal preference. It’s worth noting that a lot of punters seem to prefer the iPhone 6 Plus, and I can see why, too –– consumers have been waiting for a BIG iPhone for years. No wonder they’re now biting Apple’s hand off in the UK to get one.
iPhone 6 Plus Review: Design
Even Apple admits the iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6 are pretty much the same deal, save for the display size and addition of Optical Image Stabilisation on the Plus. They do look the same too, again, save for the Plus’ overall size and weight difference. A lot has already been said about the design of Apple’s new handsets, specifically, how thin the iPhone 6 Plus is (hello, bendgate) and the antenna bands that run around the back of both handsets.
Personally, I rather like the look of both handsets. They’re thin, almost too thin in the iPhone 6 Plus’ case, feel premium to the touch, and are very easy on the eye. They both still look like iPhones, though, so if you weren’t a fan of the iPhone 5 or iPhone 5s chances are you’re not going to a fan of these devices, either. But if you do like impossibly thin handsets that are massive then the iPhone 6 Plus is perhaps right up your street.

If you are thinking of upgrading your iPhone or you are Android fan who wants to explore iOS you are probably torn between the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, the latest entrants in the iPhone range of smartphones.

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus both offer better function. These smartphones are quite fast and they offer consistently amazing performance whether you are playing games, browsing or taking pictures. Every feature on an iPhone gives you great performance. These iPhones also provide as much power as possible. You will realize that high-end three dimensional games run better on the latest iPhones compared to the iPhone 5s. When you upgrade your iPhone, the first thing you will notice is a change in your favorite apps.
The battery life has improved and they can both manage heavier use. The visuals on these smartphones are definitely better especially when compared to the iPhone 4s or older versions. They have a larger screen size, making them ideal for those who enjoy playing games.
Both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus come with the A8 processor, the latest from Apple. This processor is specifically designed for iPhones and it ensures consistent performance.
Hard to Compare with Other Phones
It is almost impossible to compared the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus with other phones such as Samsung, HTC and Sony. This is because Apple uses a totally different approach when it comes to its design. All the components found in an iPhone work together to give you unparalleled performance. Apple ensures that each application on your smartphone functions as it is supposed to. On the other hand, smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S5 are designed to allow advanced multitasking and better flexibility. But this does not make it any faster than the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Any app you install on your iPhone will function properly several months later and this reliability is not available with Android smartphones.

Andy Rubin, the founder of Android, leaves Google

The Wall Street Journal reports that Andy Rubin, the founder and former head of Android, is leaving Google. The report states that Rubin will be starting "an incubator for hardware startups."
The move shouldn't affect Android. Rubin left the mobile division in March of 2013, handing the reins over to Sundar Pichai. Pichai has turned into Larry Page's right-hand man and now controls just about every Google product.
For the last year and a half, Rubin has been running Google's mysterious robotics division. We've seen the company gobble up several high-profile robotics companies, including Boston Dynamics and SCHAFT, the winner of the DARPA Robotics Challenge. With Rubin out, James Kuffner will take over the division.
“Larry enabled the robotic effort to run exactly the way I wanted it to, and we made great progress in our first year,” Rubin told The Wall Street Journal.
Larry Page also released a statement, saying, "I want to wish Andy all the best with what's next. With Android, he created something truly remarkable—with a billion plus happy users. Thank you.”

Here Comes The World's Thinnest Smartphone (For Now)

You’d be forgiven for not thinking the iPhone 6 is particularly "chunky" at .27 inches thick, but that didn’t stop Chinese manufacturer Oppo Electronics from one-upping it with its new R5 phone — now the slimmest on the market.
Coming in at a slender .19 inches thick, the R5 has been touted as the skinniest smartphone money can buy, and it’s a hard claim to refute. It’s thinner than...
Your average pencil, which is about .26 inches thick.
While Oppo’s phone is thin, looks can be deceiving: It’s actually heavier than the iPhone 6 (4.6 ounces), Samsung Galaxy S5 (5.1 ounces), and surely a host of other smartphones at 5.5 ounces. It also lacks a Micro SD port and headphone jack, which means users who want to listen to music or take calls with earbuds need to use a micro-USB adapter or go wireless with Bluetooth, assuming they have compatible headphones.
That super-thin shell only fits 16GB of storage—a pretty major step back from the iPhone 6’s maximum capacity of 128GB.
Don’t be too bummed if your handset is significantly more robust than this one, though. Keep in mind that the difference in thickness between all of these phones is still pretty minor: close to the thickness of a dime or two.
"Thinnest" is also a title that tends to move around: In early 2013, the Alcatel One Touch was called the thinnest at .25 inches, but it was trumped a few months later by the Huawei Ascend P6 at .24 inches, and later, the Umeox X5 at .22 inches.
The R5 runs on ColorOS, Oppo’s own operating system based on Android. Neither the operating system nor Oppo is well known in the United States, so you may have a hard time finding the R5 in stores when it launches in a few months. Oppo’s ownstore locator digs up nothing in North America. Still, you may be able to find it online: It’s set to retail for $499 off contract.
